In My Spare Time…
I find myself taking pictures of everything. This has been going on since my first cell phone w/a camera.
Dichotomies on Display
This is Chicago’s dichotomy – how one can move about in relative peace, all day, every day, while in other areas of town, that same movement is equivalent to placing your life in your hands; you travel at your own risk. This year, with multiple pandemics surrounding us, has been especially hard.
There’s the ongoing pandemic of white supremacy and racism. Then there’s a global pandemic of coronavirus. Finally, there’s the pandemic of lawlessness on all sides. Some police officers think that the virus pandemic will provide cover when they murder Black people in the street. That was blown when the entire world protested the blatant murder of George Floyd on Memorial Day.
The number of voters is increasing in spite of dirty tricks to block them before November’s important election. In spite of the lunacy that runs our nation’s Capital, the public has the power to take control of their own destiny. This is not a call for anarchy. This is a call to make the existing laws of the land work for all of its citizens, not just a few.
And while we’re taking control, we have to look in our own neighborhoods. Children that you watched grow up cannot control your life and community by terror another day. This strange summer of 2020 has seen too many children being shot for no reason. That is, unless you realize that children under, let’s say around 12, are the ones who are already the majority, outnumbering white children by a mile. And their murders could be an attempt to reduce their numbers in order to retain a white majority. Guess what? That ‘majority’ was wiped out years ago, but will anyone state this? Out loud? I thought so!
This is only one of many topics we will cover on the “Dichotomies, Then Solutions!” Podcasts.
